"What should I worry about, when I have you’ll to take care of me…"

New Condition

Her name is Laluben Bajaniya but to us she is Laluma. At 62 she earns for herself. Her sons have started their families and chose to  move to other regions. The self-respecting woman Laluma is, moving with her children was not an option that appealed her. Hence she lived on her own in a shack in Deesa and she earned for herself. Selling imitation jewellery and likes is what she did to earn living.

VSSM’s Ishwarbhai got to know her and helped her out in times of need. Ishwarbhai ensured she gets her Voter ID card, Antyoday ration card and made application for a residential plot too. Eventually as a result of these efforts she did get a plot for herself. 

Homes for families were to be built at Rajpur Vohada. The government support of Rs. 45,000, donation from Shri. Vallabhbhai Savani and loan from The Kalupur Commercial Cooperative Bank was to take care of the financial requirements for building these Rs. 1.05 lacs homes. The families were to contribute in form of labor towards building their own homes or else money was not going to be enough. 

Old Condition 

As we began to file loan applications on behalf of the families of Deesa Laluma’s capacity to repay the loan concerned us, how would she manage? was the question that nudged us. To our surprise Laluma asked us to fill up the form for her. “ Will you be able to manage the  instalments, don’t fill the form let us look for some support for you,” we asked her. But Laluma firmly refused, “its my house thats been build so I have to contribute, I would be able to do any labour so let me know how much I have to pay for that as well,” she insisted. Such is her determination.

As time progressed we could sense she found it difficult to pay the instalments, but never did she complain. Hence VSSM spoke to Shri. Pragneshbhai Desai a constant supporter of VSSM. Sri. Pragneshbhai and his friends paid the loans of all such extremely poor families of Deesa. For this we are extremely grateful to you Pragneshbhai. Thank you. 

Few days back I was in Deesa and happened to meet Laluma. She seemed very relaxed.

 “How are you?” I inquired.

“What do I have to worry about now when I have you all to take care of me. Ishwarbhai has got me Antyoday card so now I get enough grains and I earn enough to keep me going everyday..” she replied. “wouldn’t you come and see my house?” asked Laluma.

For me it was extremely gratifying to see her live in a home of her own. The picture revels how she lived before and the way she lives now. 

I take this opportunity to thank Shri. Vallabhbhai Savani  and all our generous donors who are ready to support us in all our endeavours to enable the nomadic families live a proper life. 

The wait now is for the government to create primary facilities in this  settlement. 

‘મને શું દુઃખ હોય.. મારી ચિંતા કરવાવાળા કેટલાં બધા છે’

લાલુબહેન બજાણિયા. ડીસામાં રહે. ઉમંર ૬૨..  હજુ પણ જાતે મહેનત કરીને પોતાનું ગુજરાન ચલાવે. શૃંગાર પ્રસાધનો કાચની પેટીમાં મુકીને ડીસા શહેર આસપાસના વિસ્તારમાં વેચવા ફરે. પરિવારમાં દીકરા ખરા પણ એમણે એમનો સંસાર રાધનપુરમાં માંડ્યો. એમને લાલુમાં સાથે ફાવે નહિ. આમ ખાસ કંઈ સંબંધ દીકરાઓ સાથે નહિ. ડીસામાં છાપરું કરીને એકલા રહે. 

vssmના કાર્યકર ઈશ્વરભાઈ સાથે એમનો પરિચય થયો. એક વડીલને હુંફ આપવાનું, જરૂરિયાતના સમયમાં સાથે રહેવાનું ઈશ્વરભાઈ કરે. એમની પાસે મતદારકાર્ડ, રેશનકાર્ડ કશું જ નહિ. ઈશ્વરભાઈ એ તમામ દસ્તાવેજી પુરાવા કઢાવી આપ્યાં. રહેણાંક અર્થે પ્લોટ મળે એ માટે પણ અરજી કરી અને પ્લોટ મળ્યો. 

રાજપુર વ્હોળામાં એમના ઘરો બંધાતા હતા. સરકાર રૂ.૪૫,૦૦૦ આપે અને ઘરનો અંદાજ રૂ.૧,૦૫,૦૦૦ જેટલો થાય. બાકીની રકમનો જુગાડ ક્યાંથી કરવો એ પ્રશ્ન હતો. આવામાં સુરતના શ્રેષ્ઠી શ્રી વલ્લભભાઈ સવાણીએ પ્રત્યેક પરિવારને રૂ.૪૫,૦૦૦ ની આર્થિક મદદ કરી છતાં રૂ.૧૫,૦૦૦ ખૂટતા હતાં. મકાન બાંધકામમાં સૌએ મજૂરી તો કરવાની જ હતી. નહિ તો અંદાજ કેટલેય પહોંચે. અમદાવાની જાણીતી બેંક ‘ધી કાલુપુર કોમર્શીયલ કોપરેટીવ બેંક લી. ખુબ ઓછા વ્યાજદરે આ પરિવારોને મકાન બાંધકામમાં ખૂટતી રકમની લોન આપવા કહ્યું. 

અમે સૌ પરિવારોની લોન માટે અરજી કરતાં હતા. લાલુમાંની અમને ચિંતા હતી. એ જો લોન લે તો કેવી રીતે ભરે એ પ્રશ્ન હતો.. પણ અમારા આશ્ચર્ય વચ્ચે લાલુમાં આવ્યા અને અરજી કરવા કહ્યું. અમે કહ્યું, ‘તમે લોનના હપ્તા ભરી શકશો? તમે રહેવા દો અમે કંઇક વ્યવસ્થા કરીશું.’ પણ એમણે ના પાડી એમણે કહ્યું, ‘મારું ઘર બને છે એટલે મારો પણ ફાળો હોવો જોઈએ ને? હું ઘર બાંધકામમાં મજૂરી નહિ કરી શકું.. એ માટે મારે કંઈ ભરવું પડે તો તે પણ કહેજો હું મહેનત કરીને એ આપીશ.’  આ ઉંમરે એમની આ જીન્દાદીલી...

લોનના હપ્તા એ સમયસર ચુકવતા હતા પણ એમને મુશ્કેલી પડતી હતી. અમે એ જોઈ શકતા હતા.. પણ એમણે ક્યારેય ફરિયાદ નહોતી કરી. આપણે vssm ના કામમાં સહાયભૂત થતાં શ્રી પ્રજ્ઞેશભાઈ દેસાઈ સાથે વાત કરી અને પ્રજ્ઞેશભાઈએ અને એમના મિત્રોએ મળી ડીસામાં રહેતાં આવી નાજુક પરિસ્થિતિમાં રહેતાં પરિવારોની લોન ભરી દીધી..એ સૌનો આભાર વ્યક્ત કરીએ છીએ.. લાલુમાંને હવે નિરાંત છે. થોડા દિવસ પહેલાં ડીસા ગઈ ત્યારે એમને મળવાનું થયું.. મેં પૂછ્યું, 

‘હવે કેમ છે?’ 

‘મને શું દુઃખ હોય.. મારી ચિંતા કરવાવાળા કેટલાં બધા છે. ઈશ્વરભાઈએ તો અંત્યોદય કાર્ડ અપાવ્યું છે હવે તો અનાજ પણ વધારે મળે છે હવે રોજિંદા ખર્ચની જ ચિંતા કરવાની છે અને એ થઇ જાય છે..’ હું નીકળતી હતી તો કહે ‘ઘર જોવા નહિ આવો?’  હું ગઈ અને એમના ઘરને જોઈને આનંદ થયો.. એ જે સ્થિતિમાં રહેતાં હતાં અને હવે જેમાં રહે છે એ ફોટોમાં જોઈ શકાય છે. સાથે સાથે એમના ઘરનું પ્રોપર્ટીકાર્ડ પણ જોઈ શકાય છે. લાલુમાંને ઘરનું સુખ અપાવવામાં નિમિત બનનાર શ્રી વલ્લભભાઈ સવાણી અને આ કામમાં સદાય મદદરૂપ થતાં સૌ સ્વજનોનો આ તબક્કે આભાર વ્યકત કરું છું.

આ વસાહતમાં હજુ ઘણી પ્રાથમિક સુવિધા કરવાની છે. સરકાર વહેલી તકે એ બધું કરે એવી આશા ..
